From Legrand | Ortronics press release:
New London, CT, July 19, 2011 – Legrand | Ortronics, a global leader in high performance network infrastructure solutions, is proud to introduce new environmentally friendly packaging and product innovations. Legrand | Ortronics continues their commitment to sustainable business practices as part of their corporate strategy, setting an example of best practices for environmentally responsible corporate behavior. Partnering with members of their supply chain, Legrand | Ortronics has created new, more environmentally sensitive packaging for their fiber optics products, replacing styrofoam and similar non-biodegradable materials with recyclable cardboard. Other fiber optics product packaging has changed from oversized cardboard and styrofoam to product shaped PET plastic clamshells. Both packaging conversions decrease the size and volume of packaging, reduce shipping costs for the supply chain and provide a recyclable final packaging product to our customers. Significant product changes have been implemented to the Mighty Mo vertical manager line as well. Research showed that changing the anodization process from colored to clear made a substantial impact on the overall product manufacturing energy consumption, reducing it by 2.5%. The change allowed longer extrusions to be run, resulted in a 7% reduction of aluminum scrap, a reduction of cycle times and the elimination of transportation to and from an outside source. Legrand | Ortronics eco-friendly product designs take into account the total energy consumption, the impact on the carbon footprint and the choice of materials used during production. The manufacturing and distribution of our products reflect the Legrand | Ortronics core value of continuous improvement and a commitment to a more sustainable product portfolio.
