Coverage and Capacity Made Simple with Cellular-over-LAN
Enterprises of all sizes are challenged to enhance the productivity of their workforce by delivering pervasive cellular access that meets the diverse requirements of their organizations. Their requirements include addressing the ever increasing demand for indoor cellular services and emerging next generation, bandwidth - intensive applications using Smartphones.
Innovative converged network enables cellular traffic on a separate frequency using Ethernet LAN cabling.
MobileAccessVE is an innovative solution that has been tested and validated with the Cisco® Unified Wireless Network. The MobileAccessVE solution transparently distributes cellular RF signals inside of buildings over CAT 5e/6 Ethernet infrastructure for second-generation (2G), third-generation (3G), and fourth-generation (4G) services, without affecting the performance of wired or wireless LAN traffic, or consuming LAN capacity. This flexible approach lets enterprises deliver reliable, in-building cellular coverage while minimizing the disruption associated with new cabling projects, all at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions.
How Does MobileAccessVE Work?
With the MobileAccessVE solution, a wireless carrier signal source is established, bringing RF signals from the outside into the building. Cellular signals are then transported to VE Controllers (VCU) housed alongside LAN equipment in IT closets. The VE Controller is connected to Ethernet via an e-switch and then passes cellular and Ethernet signals, as well as standard Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) to VE Access Pods (VAP), which are installed on ceilings or walls. Ethernet signals and PoE can also be passed to WLAN Access Points connected on the end of VE Access Pods. Using PoE, both VE Access Pods and Cisco Access Points powered without additional cabling requirements, and neither network is impacted by an outage in the other.
