A couple of months ago smartPAK was introduced by Berk-Tek. This post will serve as a refresh in case you missed the release. Below you will find information about smartPAK and what makes this product so great! For those of you who have known about this product--maybe even those of you who have used it, we would love to hear your feedback. Please leave feedback in comment box below.
Berk-Tek’s smartPAK 1,500’ UTP copper cable package option was developed in response to today’s realistic field lengths. The innovative smartPAK 1,500’ cable package provides more cable pulls per box, less scrap, fewer box change-overs, reduced cardboard waste and saves space at the job site.
A standard 1,000’ box of UTP cable allows three (3) 300’ pulls (the maximum length allowed by the TIA-568-C standards), leaving 100’ (10%) as leftover scrap. According to contractors, the “typical” run is half that distance, which then equals six (6) 150’ runs, the scrap remains the same at 100’. The smartPAK package allows multiple lengths of either 300’ or 150’ with no scrap.
Because the smartPAK box contains 50% more cable, the box construction is made with additional reinforced, multi-layer corrugated cardboard for added strength. In addition, there is an innovative thumb hole for strength and better grip. All of the smartPAK boxes are of the same dimensions, which makes it easier to stack and store. Accu-Tech will offer this option in all of Berk-Tek’s four core UTP products: LANmark-1000™ (enhanced Category 6); LANmark-6™ (standard Category 6); LANmark™-350 (enhanced Category 5e); and, Hyper Plus 5e (standard Category 5e).
