About a month ago we featured Digitus Biometrics in a blog post. I am starting a blog series on the biometrics solutions Digitus carries to help secure data centers. Today, I will be discussing their Server Cabinet Access.
Server Cabinet Access is crucial to securing your network and the information stored within, this being especially true for those in a co-located data center. Some may speculate and say why do we need that if we have access control to our building? The answer-- insiders, who know the security status of your server cabinets, should also be a concern. So why not eliminate the temptation?
Digitus db ServerRack Access Control product family delivers security for your cabinets, as well as the highest level of compliance with an audit trail covering the entire enterprise, from the front door, to the cabinet door. This product family consists of two main product lines, db BUS and db Zero-U.
The db BUS system eliminates the need for controller and power supply at each cabinet, subsequently reducing cost. A single controller distributes fail-safe signals and electrical power to as many as 64 cabinet door locks. The BUS system offers two different ways of access:
Authentication At The Cabinet:
Featuring a fingerprint or card reader on each cabinet, the user presents either at the cabinet door
- An independent biometric or card reader on the front and back doors of a cabinet.
- Biometric or card lock on the front door, simultaneously unlocks front and back door.
Authentication At The End Of The Row
Featuring a fingerprint or RFID card reader (125KHz or 13.56MHz) on the end of the row cabinets. This means of access requires a keypad, which is used to designate the desired cabinet to access. Once authentication has been verified, the electromechanical lock grants the user access.
- Works with the Digitus db ELock.
- Works with your existing electromechanical locks.
db Zero-U
The db Zero-U access control system provides a networked solution for server cabinets with a reader/controller combination in each cabinet. Suitable for both new cabinets and existing cabinets, where the cabinets are either fewer in number, or distributed over a wider area. The two configuration options are listed below.
- Independent biometric or card reader on the front and back doors or a cabinet.
- Biometric or card lock on the front door, simultaneously unlocks front and back door.
