Hubbell Lighting has now created a program for commercial buildings to test the lighting before they purchase. Hubbell's "createchange" program provides a suite of audit tools implemented by Hubbell lighting consultants, allowing users to test and measure the economic benefit of using various lighting solutions.
Hubbell encourages customers to take advantage of this great opportunity. With a trial period in the specific building, the customer can validate cost saving estimates by monitoring actual impact for 90 days. Customers can then decide whether to keep the product or return for a full refund.
The createchange program includes a comprehensive evaluation of the building space, including offices, halls, conference rooms, restrooms, exteriors, parking garages and mechanical rooms. Because lighting represents 30% to 50% of the energy used in most facilities, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, Hubbell solutions and control devices can dramatically reduce energy and maintenance costs. In fact, a well-executed lighting retrofit can reduce energy usage by up to 60%, translating into an improved EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) of 17% for warehouses and manufacturing facilities, a 4% increase in earnings at automobile and truck dealerships, and a 3% increase in net operating income for commercial buildings.
In a 150,00 sq-ft building that, for example, operates 24/7, changing out 150 hallway 75 watt incandescent downlights to Hubbell Lighting's LED fixtures will save the building owner almost $27,000 a year based on an electricity rate of $0.11 per kWh including lighting energy, HVAC, maintenance and controls savings.
Hubbell also offers additional programs such as the Cash Flow Positive program: companies can apply to have Hubbell fund their entire lighting and control system upgrade with structured financing so energy cost savings are greater than monthly financing costs.
