With frequent power quality problems, including those caused by thunderstorms, the city of Roswell, GA needed a robust power protection solution to safeguard their equipment and maintain uptime. Their equipment includes mission-critical servers, network fiber switches, routers, modems and several PoE switches responsible for keeping traffic cameras, security alarms, parking gates and other devices up and running in the data center, the police department and other sites. Their existing solution did not provide the reliability they required to maintain uptime on all of those technologies. Under their existing solution, when a power event occurred, IT personnel had to go out into the field to manually reboot VoIP systems at remote locations. It was time for a better solution!
The city of Roswell already had some Eaton UPSs in their data center, and they knew that those units always delivered exceptional reliability, so they decided to go with nearly 50 new Eaton UPSs, including BladeUPS and 9PX models. To protect their many PoE switches, they also deployed dozens of smaller UPSs, like Eaton's 5PX models, in various administration buildings, fire stations, police facilities and more.
Additional, Eaton's Visual Power Manager (VPM) software now enables the IT team to remotely monitor all of the power devices within the system. VPM simplifies their day-to-day monitoring and helps maintain business continuity, without constant visits to remote locations in the field. VPM also provides custom reports, configuration commands and a visual layout of the data centers, making it easier than ever to stay in-tune with trends and quickly identify and resolve issues.
Partnering with Eaton gave the city of Roswell many benefits. Thanks to the UPSs and VPM, Roswell is now able to:
- Ensure continuous uptime
- View and manage its entire power environment with VPM
- Remotely reboot devices when needed
- Detect potential vulnerabilities and proactively remedy them
