GenSPEED® Brand Cables are now LEED® credit eligible!
As a global leader in the wire and cable industry, General Cable recognizes its role and responsibility in promoting sustainability and is committed to producing and marketing products in an environmentally sound and responsible manner. Furthering this commitment, General Cable now offers Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs) for our GenSPEED Brand line of copper data communications cables. Our full line of Category 5e, 6 and 6A cables can now contribute to two LEED points to help a building project obtain LEED v4 status, an important initiative from the U.S. Green Building Council.
What is an EPD?
An EPD is an independently verified report that describes the impact of the products we produce to the environment. A cradle-to-grave assessment, EPDs look at the energy consumed during the entire production process from raw material acquisition all the way through end of life disposal.
What is an HPD?
An HPD is an independent verification that our products are responsibly manufactured and do not contain any hazardous materials.
What is LEED?
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design™, is a program created and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The program is designed to guide energy efficient building practices. According to the USGBC, nine out of 10 LEED certified buildings have demonstrated at least a 10 percent improvement in energy efficiency.
