Hitachi's NEW Category 6 and Category 6A XS™ Cable
The XS™ cable is Hitachi’s new entry-level Category 6 and 6A XS™ cable. The XS cable is UL Verified, sweep tested to 555 MHz and delivers electrical performance that exceeds the ANSI/TIA 568.D-2 standard.
Made in the U.S.A. at Hitachi’s Manchester, New Hampshire facility, the XS cable includes a number of design features intended to speed installation while also maximizing shipping capabilities and warehouse space. The XS CMP (plenum) utilizes a smaller box than previous designs, thus enabling more efficient use of space for both shipping and storage. Changes to the CMR (riser) version are underway and their completion will be in the near future.
The XS contains no center spline typically found in Category 6 cables. This fillerless design results in one of the smallest outside diameters available for a Category 6 cable. This small outside diameter also permits the highest conduit fill rates of all Hitachi Category 6 cables and one of the highest in the industry. The XS pulls smooth from the Reelex box and lays flat when dispensed. These characteristics enhance the installer experience by offering easier and faster pulls during installation. Its 24 AWG conductors help in limiting its outside diameter while also supporting Power over Ethernet applications such as the popular IEEE 802.3 af and at and the more demanding IEEE 802.3bt. It is also Hitachi’s greenest cable. It utilizes a brown box of 100% recycled cardboard for both CMP and CMR cables.
This product package, since it has no chemical or waxy coatings, requires less resources to enter the recycle stream. It’s fillerless design also requires less materials than those with fillers and almost all of the materials used in its construction are from New England or northeast based companies.

DryBit™ Indoor-Outdoor Cable - OEM Copper Premise Cables by Hitachi Cable America
Conduit that originates indoors but passes through or under a concrete slab is often subject to water infiltration. National Electric Code (NEC) 2017 Edition, Article 100 and the BICSI Telecommunication Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) define these environments as wet locations since the slab and the associated conduit are subject to saturation by water. Standard plenum or riser rated cables can’t be used in these situations since water will have a catastrophic effect on both their electrical and physical performance. The typical solution has been to use outdoor cable in the conduit and then transition to the appropriately rated cable type once indoors. Drybit™ Category 6 cable from Hitachi Cable America eliminates the time and cost associated with transitioning from outdoor cable to indoor-rated cable.
