What is OSHPD?
The Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development (OSHPD) was created in response to the 1971 Sylmar earthquake and now governs all health facilities construction in the state of California. OSHPD’s Pre-Approval of Manufacturer’s Certification (OPM) is a voluntary program for review and approval of seismic design of supports and attachments for nonstructural components.
How does OSHPD Affect Me?
While California is currently the only state with OSHPD requirements, other states with a high risk of seismic activity can rest easy knowing specific Peerless-AV mounting solutions have been tested and rated to the highest standards ensuring all of our equipment and performance will remain anchored in the event of an earthquake.
OPM pre-approved product should be referenced in Construction Documents for CBC 2013 based projects and may also be used for guidance in IBC 2012 based projects outside the state of California.
How are Peerless-AV Mounts OSHPD Certified?
Peerless-AV mounts are OSHPD approved through a highly regarded structural engineering company in California. Peerless AV begins the process by submitting specifications of the models being evaluated, which is then followed by an assessment from licensed California OSHPD engineers to ensure product is up to code. If all code calculations are met, the product is approved and deemed OSHPD certified. In rare occasions will a product need to be sent out to undergo a dynamic test (or shaketest), followed by a report in accordance with OSHPD standards that states the Peerless-AV mount has passed and is seismically qualified.
