Siemon’s LockIT™ line of secure network connectivity solutions had an unlikely beginning.
Once upon a time, a Siemon Sales Representative asked a high school IT customer how their newly-cabled computer lab was working out. The customer answered jokingly, “It would be perfect if I could keep the kids from stuffing their used spitballs and chewed-up gum into my open outlets.”
After the two shared a good laugh, it got the Sales Representative thinking... Why isn’t there an easy, inexpensive way to protect ports against tampering?
The question was eventually brought forward to the Siemon R&D team, and it was accepted as challenge.
Fast forward to present day, and Siemon has released a newly updated line LockIT locking patch cords and outlet locks.
Available in Category 6 and 6A, shielded and unshielded configurations, LockIT secure patch cords are ideal for preventing the disconnection of publicly-accessible, IP-enabled devices.
Potential applications include surveillance cameras, WAPs, self-service kiosks, vending machines and digital displays.
The cords for this solution are also compatible with any standards-based RJ 45 port. Simply plug them in and immediately engage/disengage the locking mechanism! This straightforward design can offer its next IT customer guaranteed, low-cost public protection against damage from spitballs, paper clips and curious fingers.
