In this blog post, Prysmian walks us through their extended-distance cable offering, how it works, and the benefits it could bring to your facility.
Getting information where it is needed, when it is needed is more critical now than ever. Fortunately, Prysmian’s GenSPEED® datacom cables can meet that need. GenSPEED cables communicate information through telephone or computer systems and are available in various performance levels and shielded and unshielded constructions, including Copper Category 6A 10 Gig, Category 6, Category 5e, and Category 3 cables.
Developed ten years ago, GenSPEED® 6 MAX Category 6 (22 AWG) addresses the growing need to deliver power and data over category cables. More specifically, to focus on supporting applications requiring better attenuation/signal-loss performance, such as extended-distance use cases. The primary enhancement to MAX is increased copper conductor size (22 AWG), leading to less voltage drop, increased carrying capacity, and higher protection against increased operating temperatures. The enhancements have led to a guaranteed performance better than other Category 6 specifications—performance up to 350 MHz instead of 250 MHz.
GenSPEED® 6 MAX cables provide maximum versatility to challenging installations with Plenum and Outside Plant options. The cable meets all Category 6 requirements under 100 meters with a certified LP listing of 0.7 Amps* (140 watts) for MAX Plenum. The same industry-trusted high-powered PoE cable that has been in the market since 2015 is guaranteed to meet your extended-distance needs.
MAX also goes beyond the IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 standard of 100 W by supporting applications up to 140 W for even more coverage of high-wattage equipment. MAX is the first cable in the industry with UL listing CMP-LP 0.7 Amps and is constructed of 100% fluoropolymer insulation for higher protection.
MAX achieves 1G bps at 200 m** and 10 Mbps at 274 m** to meet the growing demand for PoE applications requiring father distances greater than 100 meters. This makes it ideal for security (cameras and Access control), ICT (Wireless Access Points, AV systems, IP Phones, and Thin Clients), Building Automation and Control (parking systems and digital building systems), and IoT Devices (temperature, humidity, presence, retail, and industrial).
MAX is available in Plenum and Outside Plant construction for longer runs, delivering cost savings through fewer terminations and lower connectivity costs, power equipment, and labor hours. It can also contribute to two LEED® points with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs).

* 0.7 A is the ampacity rating of the cable, which equates to 140 watts using 50 volts over four pairs. Results may vary based on temperature and other external impacts
