There’s no doubt that the world we live in has drastically changed, and we’re certainly still working through and adjusting to new best practices, safety protocols and protective equipment. As we adjust to the many changes around us, we are collectively moving into a new chapter. With great change comes great opportunity… and together, every day, we are actively creating and defining our next normal.
As we return to work, we’re looking to our operations managers, facilities directors and office managers to take the lead in creating a safe, socially-distanced standard protocol. In many office spaces, that means incorporating plexiglass protective partitions. In more still, that means staggering office times and monitoring foot traffic flow. In larger facilities, we consider integrating systems to monitor ingress and egress, headcount, foot traffic and elevated body temperature.
In this graphic, you can see a representation of an office building with full system integration. From Digital Signage and In-Building Wireless to Surveillance and Mass Communication, system integration throughout the facility can help create a safer standard and a safer normal.
In the past, fully integrated buildings were a ‘nice to have’ ideal, and now, complete integration of the systems in your building has become ever-more critical to ensure effective and consistent protective measures. Picture your ideal office building: perhaps we’ve got touchless access control and door entry. Maybe the perimeter security includes thermal scanners for added protection of the individuals in the building. Likely, we would prefer to have touchless access for scheduling, booking and presenting in conference rooms, and perhaps digital signage throughout the building helps us navigate to our destination while avoiding congested areas.
Does your building incorporate these technologies? We didn’t necessarily need them before, but what about now? Regardless of the area in which you live, the foot traffic in your building and the size of your local community, we’re all working together to protect our coworkers, friends, families and neighbors. And that – that is creating a next normal with which we can all agree. That’s creating a safer future.
