The cutter on your industrial printer get duller with every use, depending on what label material is being printed and the airborne dust and particles in any given work environment. Outdoor labeling can be especially tough on cutter blades due to dirt, moisture, sawdust and grit at the job site. It's true that cutters can be cleaned with cotton-tipped swabs and alcohol to remove excess adhesive residue and dirt, but they cannot be sharpened.
Most printers with dull cutters must be returned to the manufacturer for cutter replacement. This usually includes a fee and results in downtime costs and delays. The DYMO XTL-series Industrial Printers, however, feature field replaceable cutter mechanisms to get you back to work quickly and easily.
To replace the XTL 300 Cutter Blade, you just need to follow six simple steps:
- Press the label compartment release and lift the cover.

- Insert a straightened paper clip (or other pointed object) in the small hole shown in the figure below to release the cutter mechanism.
- While pressing the paper clip down, pull the cutter mechanism straight out from the side of the label maker. Be careful - the cutter blade is extremely sharp.
